Coronavirus: The Cold Equations

Eventually, we hope, the US can “flatten the curve.” But, to date, we’re doing a lousy job of it.

Under the President Trump administration COVID-19 testing was totally mishandled.  Despite numerous lies by Trump and VP Pence that we have millions of coronavirus tests,  the reality is as of March 28th, we’ve had 672,449 tests.

Trump’s leadership consists of lies and dangerous pablum mixed with attacks on state governments, companies, and anyone who disagrees with him. As a result, instead of working together, states and companies are sparring with each other and the President. With leadership like this who needs a pandemic?

At a lower level of government, officials  like Mississippi’s Republican governor, are trying to continue with business as usual. This is not business as usual.

This level of governmental incompetence will only make things worse. Those numbers I cited? They could easily go much higher. The Imperial College of London’s Coronavirus study predicted a worst-case scenario of 2.2-millions deaths in the United States if we failed to do the right things. We’re doing some of them, but nothing like enough.

Do them. Ignore anyone who tells you everything’s fine and it’s safe to go back to work and our normal life anytime soon. Self-isolate, pay attention to doctors and not politicians, and take care of yourself. Last, but not least, start wrapping your mind around that we’re not getting out of this anytime soon.

I wish we were. We’re not.
