		<description>Correction - the Mepis 8 Beta1 is using a 2.6.26 kernel, not the same kernel that Debian is running on. If you check the history of Mepis, Warren usually opts for the even numbered kernel versions, partially based on previous conversations and/or affirmations for the even numbered kernels from Linus Torvolds.

Mepis7 is still a very worthy candidate with the  new Community Repository providing backported apps from Lenny and Sid for the etch based Mepis7  system.  I can honestly say my Mepis7 production system (apart from the kernel and xorg) is easily as up to date as the most active distributions out there, but it still has the rock solid stability Mepis has always been well known for, plus the MepisLovers community have developed a remastering script that makes it possible to respin your own updated Mepis or AntiX.
