I think the movie rentals feature is nice. However, with Fox being the only movie studio offering this, it is still not enough to rescue the Apple TV. The reason why Apple TV didn't do so well in 2007 was because of its reliance on iTunes content. What happen when/if Fox pulls the content from the iTunes Store like the other studios? Apple TV will just go back to being a mediocre device that everyone will likely forget over time.

I think the key to Apple TV's success is to rely less on content and more on itself. Apple should open up the Apple TV to 3rd party developers. This way, it can stand on its own and less being a conduit between computers and the big screen.

To realize the Apple TV's potential, I would like to offer you my article called "Repurposing the Apple TV" that I have written on my site, http://appletvsource.com.
